Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) is the only pediatric medical center in Arkansas. Known for being one of the largest pediatric medical providers in the United States, ACH proudly provides comprehensive, world-class medical care to children and families throughout Arkansas and surrounding areas. ACH is an affiliate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and serves as a teaching hospital under the UAMS College of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics. ACH staff consists of more than 500 physicians, 80 residents, and 3,500 support staff members. The campus spans 29 city blocks and has a floor space totaling over 1,200,000 square feet.

ACH's Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Team provides the very best in patient care, teaching, and clinical research for children with cancer and blood disorders. The Hematology/Oncology team diagnoses about one hundred new cancer patients each year, representing over ninety-percent of the children in Arkansas who have cancer. Arkansas children don't have to travel out-of-state to receive the best treatments available, as the ACH Hematology/Oncology team provides treatment for over ninety-five percent of all types of childhood cancer right here in Little Rock.

Eight board-certified pediatric hematology/oncologists, 4 advanced nurse practitioners, 37 nurses certified through the Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurses (APHON), and a sedation team comprise the Hematology/Oncology Team. The team, which provides inpatient care, treats between 15 and 18 patients at any given time, averaging around eight to ten admissions per week for inpatient chemotherapy.

ACH's Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Team's outpatient clinic, which treats blood disorder and cancer patients, sees around 150 patient visits per week. Blood disorders treated in the clinic include Sickle cell disease, other types of anemia, hemophilia and others.

The team participates in the National Cancer Institute-funded clinical research protocols through the Children's Oncology Group, which provides state-of-the-art cancer treatment and also provides a mechanism to continue to improve therapy and the understanding of childhood cancer. All members of the team's faculty participate in research, either clinical, basic science or both.
